behind the wine

Our People

Our story is rooted in a friendship that spans almost 20 years. We initially met over the phone when I was a member of one of Brian’s wine clubs. A regular dialogue developed over time that spanned deep discussions of our favorite wines, winemaking techniques, and wine industry trends and challenges. We soon recognized that we were kindred spirits as we shared a love for similar wines and winemaking styles. My background in chemistry, flavor development and sensory analysis drove my curiosity to learn from Brian’s formal winemaking training and, more importantly, years of experience making outstanding wines globally.

In 2013, I hosted Brian for a wine tasting dinner in North Carolina. Spending two days together in person sparked initial conversations of two friends embarking on a new journey, our own wine label. The timing wasn’t right in 2013. Fast forward to early 2020, Brian gave me a call and said, “if we’re ever going to do it, the time is now!” Many vineyards had their contracts canceled by larger wineries due to the dramatic drop in wine sales due to the pandemic. “We have an opportunity to buy some exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon from some small vineyards that I know well at a price you’ll never see again” Brian said in his excitement. And thus, B True Wines was born.

Wine has been a passion of mine since I was introduced to my first serious wine at a business dinner in the early 1990’s. The wine was a 1987 Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and it captivated me immediately. I was fascinated by the complexity of the wine and how the flavors and finish evolved as I drank it. “Wow”, I thought, “this is a far cry from the boxed wine I had at graduate school seminars!”

Over countless glasses of wine with friends and family, I began envisioning one day owning a vineyard, producing wine, and having a coveted spot of my own in Napa Valley. My vision began to evolve after repeatedly driving by the small family vineyards that were nestled between cult producers and big wine brands. “Instead of buying a vineyard, why not support smaller growers and family farms? Surely, I could purchase grapes and produce premium, high quality cabernet sauvignon from some of these vineyards.” Fortunately for me, my friendship with Brian began to develop about the same time. After all these years working in chemistry and science, I finally found the route to follow my passions and leverage my skills and experiences for something I truly love!

B True Wines is a culmination of friendships, passion for wine and the relationships that are fostered along the way. As we share at the core of who we are, wine is all about the people. We are delighted and honored to share such an authentic journey of B True Wines!

Brian Graham

Winemaker

My interest in wine can be traced back to when I was a young man. My Dad and I would spend countless hours talking about life and drinking wine together, including a 1963 Dow Port that we shared many years ago. While attending Texas Tech University, I worked at and later managed several wine stores where I learned about fine wine from the store’s purveyors. In 1996, a close friend who owned a Chateau in Bordeaux invited me to move there and help manage his estate. I sold everything I owned and bought a one-way ticket to France. To learn more formally about winemaking, I attended the University of Bordeaux. I paid my way through school by working at several small Chateaux’s in Bordeaux and working harvest in Burgundy. In 1998, I landed in Napa, where I immersed myself in the process of making wine for small production wineries in the valley.

Since 2001, I have crafted wines from grapes I source from extraordinary vineyard sites. I work with the growers throughout the year to ensure the best quality grapes possible and take a minimalistic approach during winemaking. I am currently the winemaker for 7 wineries in multiple states and locations. Bill and I had been talking about creating a wine… and a brand… that would represent the finest wine we could make and highlight the smaller, family-owned vineyards that put Napa Valley on the map. I feel truly blessed that the pieces came together to work on this passion collaboration with my long-time friend. We invite you to pour a glass of B True and toast to your family and friends, all the while creating memories to last a lifetime.
